Jerry Bance, running as a candidate in the Conservative Party of Canada for Scarborough-Rouge Park, learned this lesson Sunday. He was eliminated from the race after a video made the rounds on the online.

The video showed Bance, who runs a repair company, urinating into a coffee cup in a customer’s kitchen after fixing a dishwasher leak. Though the clip of Bance urinating was broadcast in an episode of CBC-TV’s “Marketplace” in 2012, the former candidate wasn’t identified until Sunday night.

Shortly after the video resurfaced, the hashtag #peegate was trending on Twitter throughout Canada. Users shared memes and jokes about Bance leaving the race:

Conservative candidate “deeply regrets” urinating in mug, but not as much as the next person to use the mug #peegate #cdnpoli
