Watch: Michele Bachmann’s John Wayne (Gacy) flub

Bachmann announced her run for the White House today in Waterloo, the town where she grew up. During an interview after the announcement, Bachmann made the error of stating that Waterloo was the birthplace of movie icon John Wayne.

John Wayne was, in fact, born in Iowa, but not in Waterloo. (His original name was Marion Morrison, by the way.) However, another John Wayne did settle in the town. John Wayne Gacy, the infamous serial killer, lived in Waterloo for several years. It was the city was where his first-ever arrest took place.
