What PR problem? Toyota profits soar 27 percent, despite recalls

Remember that whole PR mess Toyota faced this year? The one that sparked dozens — probably hundreds — of crisis experts to deliver the death knell for Toyota. (Some of whom were no doubt highlighted on this website.) So much for that. The automaker posted a $2.2 billion profit for its first fiscal quarter. How’d it do that? “Sales in emerging markets and cost-cutting helped offset lingering recall costs and strong foreign exchange rates,” USA Today reports.
