One great way to stay up on industry happenings is to follow experts who can teach us about best practices and the latest trends in writing, storytelling, content marketing, measurement and more.
In that spirit, I’m listing some favorite experts and why you should follow them:
1. Ann Handley
Writing is the foundation of PR. That’s why you should follow @AnnHandley and @MarketingProfs. A well-known figure in B2B marketing, Handley is the author of the best-seller “Everybody Writes” and founder of MarketingProfs. She doles out witty advice on ways to improve your writing.
Measurement. The term alone can send many a PR pro heading for the hills. A vice president of marketing technology at Shift Communications, as well as a prolific speaker and blogger, @cspenn has a straightforward approach to providing measurement and marketing technology tips, along with advice for all communicators.
3. Ian Cleary
PR aligns closely with content marketing, so you’ll want to follow @iancleary and @razorsocial for great advice on how to share and promote your content. Cleary shares practical tips and tools to help anyone, regardless of budget, to improve in this area.
4. Joe Pulizzi
For content marketing insights, follow @JoePulizzi, the “godfather of content marketing.” Pulizzi writes a subscription-only piece for the Content Marketing Institute’s weekly email that provides a practical look at trends in that industry.

An educator, speaker and founder of three agencies, @MartinWaxman offers advice on digital communications that any PR pro would find valuable. He specializes in helping brands develop their content marketing and social media PR strategies.
Known as @MrMediaTraining, Phillips can get you up to speed on what to say—and how to say it—in media interviews. He provides solid advice with an entertaining twist of snark. Follow him for his witty take on missteps made by politicians, celebrities and companies in the spotlight.

Trappe heads up The Authentic Storytelling Project, which focuses on helping brand managers share content that people will make time for, even when they’re busy.
