RESEARCH & DATA

The future of ESG seems uncertain, at least where investors are concerned.

New research from Morning Consult reveals a mixed bag of results for those engaged in ESG work. On the one hand, only 35% of consumers say ESG is a top priority when picking investments. On the other hand, that number jumps to 54% when looking just at millennials and Gen Z investors. Additionally, only 14% of investors said a financial manager has talked to them about ESG as part of their investment mix.

Morning Consult ESG

While not a completely rosy picture, there’s a clear opportunity here for PR professionals. Increase outreach on ESG topics, especially to investment advisors and younger investors, on your ESG efforts and how they can help not only the world, but also their portfolio. Cut out buzzwords and do your best to provide concrete examples and proof of your efforts. ESG is likely to be a long-term play, given the age of the most interested investors. Stay the course.
